Announced on Judy’s Facebook page today:

“It's with huge sadness the news has just reached me that Judy passed away at 6.15 this morning at a hospital in Sydney after a battle with cancer.

My thoughts are going to her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by so many people all around the world.

Rest in peace ❤️

//Admin”

Very sad news. I had no idea she was so ill.

Oh no, this is really sad news. I loved the character of Pixie and thought Judy played her brilliantly throughout, so much so that her sad exit affected me more than most in the show.

r.i.p.

Very sad news indeed.

Aside from Prisoner, I will remember her most as Tania Livingstone in The Young Doctors.

May she rest in peace.

Sad, sad news.

I really loved Judy's performance as Pixie and despite the off-beat nature of the role, she really brought Pixie to life and made her believable. It was very easy to care for Pixie and thios was, I feel, testament to Judy McBurney's skill as an actress.

RIP Judy - thanks for all the great Pixie moments!!!

Very sad news. I remember her well for playing Tanya in TYD, more so than Prisoner really.

RIP Judy.

This is very sad to hear, slightly younger than my mother is now, which is something that always feels a bit macabre at these sad times.

After a good watching spell of episodes on a short period, I stopped a couple of months ago right at Episode 510, which was Pixie's last episode.

It is going to be odd watching post Pixie episodes with the knowledge that her portrayer has also met a tragic fate too.

Pixie was a ball of girlie fluff, yet she was entertaining and not annoying. She was a sweet character with a lovely soul which is how I imagine Judy to have been.

RIP Judy. The world is poorer for your passing but richer for your existence.

So now both partners in Australia's first major soap wedding as seen in The Young Doctors 1977 - Tony Alvarez and Judy McBurney have departed. Sad.

On facebook there is a fan who is planning to attend Judy's funeral. Not something I would do as Judy was not personally known to me.

I suppose they could just stand at the back? Are funerals normally open to everyone?

A sensitive subject obviously, but perhaps Judy had a massively positive impact on the fan's life and the fan just wants to respectfully pay his/her respects. Of course everything depends upon family and friends and how the funeral is organised. It's such a sensitive subject of course.

If JUDY had a massive impact on the fan's life and they have enjoyed watching her in the range of roles she has performed in, then attendance MAY be reasonable.
If PIXIE had a massive impact on the fan's life and they have not really seen much of her other work over her long career, then it would be inappropriate to attend.

Well I certainly wouldn't go no. I have heard a lot of fans say Pixie is their favourite character in Prisoner. I wonder if this is simply because she is one of the nicest characters?

I can't believe she was 70. I had assumed she was only in her early 20s when she appeared in Prisoner, but she must have been more than ten years older than that.

Yes, she was about 35 when she first tuned up at the (2nd) Driscoll house.

Don’t quote me on this, but I vaguely remember 24 being mentioned around the time she went missing with her ex husband Ralph.

Just learned of this because I literally did a search on Prisoner looking to see if something like this had happened. Not to sound morbid, but I'm anticipating most of the cast passing within the decade. It's sad, but it's part of life.
