I am currently in the Warriors mire. Lou will be leaving next episode and then...sigh... then the eternal wait for Spider and something decent to happen :) Gawd.... Nancy and her diary... Lorelei and her stories... Lexie and that poxy video camera. Oh. And the boat. Kill me. Kill me now.

Good summary of that post Lou period. The show really picked up after Simpson arrived.

652. Finally good things are happening: Rita is back to being a decent character... Spider, Wendy, Lisa no.1 are in. Sarah West due in.... Kath and Rodney 'relationship' is starting.
Gawd knows why there was that kiddies show section post Lou, with all the ridiculous screaming and shrieking and infantile plots... and suddenly it feels like Coral is back in the writing chair and making it Prisoner once again! LOL

Good summary of that era of the show. It really picked up full steam from the mid 600s to the close.

I will be watching 573 and 574 tonight. This is my second watch however this time, I started near the end of the Alison Page episodes (last time, I started during the Sid Humphrey era). Last time, I missed the majority of the 400s and early 500s, I saw them (And I thought post-Bea Prisoner was gonna be dreadful, it wasn't) So, hopefully this time, I'll be able to watch all 692 episodes through. I must say, the Barnhurst 5 era isn't as bad as people perceive it to be, however, a returning character from the past like Chrissie, Margo, Sandy, Doreen or Lizzie would have made the Barnhurst 5 era much better, because it lacked well loved past Prisoners.

Episode 161. Gillespie has made his presence felt, Bea has been bashed, and the women are preparing for the pantomime.

I'm a bit confused about Doreen now, because I know she tries to escape in a few episodes time, but she was released a few episodes ago (not paroled, just simply released), then she snatched Elizabeth (but brought her back again before handing herself in to the cops).

What I want to know is, does she ever go on trial for snatching Elizabeth? Because I can't recall it, and I'm sure they'd be quite lenient if Chrissie didn't want to press charges (and the fact she brought her back). Yet I think the next time she is released is well over a year from this time.

182 - the big feud episode between Bea and Judy. I always thought this was all over and done with a bit too quickly - they could have spread it out over a few episodes instead of rushing it in one.

I was totally team Judy here. Bea did the thing that she told Georgie only one episode before that was the one thing that no prisoner ever did, or get away with - and that was lag on another inmate. Anybody else would have recieved a bashing for that!

191 - awful episode. It's nearly all about the Pearces and Bea's feelings for Ken.I was actually relieved when it was over, and so glad we don't have to ever see Debbie again.

Agreed, but we do get the same actress return as the equally abysmal Sam, who seems to old for Paul Reynolds and far too young for Wally, who sleeps with her too.

Episode 200.... I do think it's rather strange that nobody has thought to suggest that Bea sees a proper doctor. After all, she was in a pretty bad crash and obviously hit her head hard. Would she not need to have a medical examination as well as a psychiatric one?

Episode 692

Brilliant episode.
Ann definitely knew what was going on. It would have been nice to get a flashback in the episode where we see Rita telling Ann the plan. I don’t think the women were in on it though. The acting from the whole cast was top notch. It’s a totally different show from episode 1 and it’s funny how you forget about characters like Judy, Myra, Bea and Vera when you watch this 1986 era. Loved it! I can now say I’ve seen every episode!

I have reached an interesting (to me at least) point where having watched 406 just now, I have finally caught up to the point that I first started watching on regional ITV in 1992.

Yes it has taken me 26 years to get that far. Now I need to try and watch the next 286 episodes a little quicker.

Just watched 264 again, which I always dread as it means the end of one of my favourite characters in the series - Sandy Edwards. At least we hasve some classic Kate and Marie moments still to come though.

One thing I don't get though - Why are they keeping Bea in isolation when all the women know about Kate anyway? The inspector told Marie, and the whole point of keeping Bea there was to stop her telling the other women.

I often wonder what would have happened if Sandy had stayed inside and done her sentence. Would she have accepted Bea as top dog once Marie was out of the way? Or would she have not been content taking orders and challenged Bea for the position? I guess we'll never know now.

Sandy was meant to be permanent as top dog from my understanding but then the actress got pregnant. Bea proabaly would have been phased out.

I started watching again via old VHS tapes of channel 5 eps and have noticed how much they changed the contrast for the DVDs. I can understand why they changed it as the picture has a slight "washed out" look..BUT it is much easier to see people when it is dark on the original and also the colour is proper. It is a shame we can't have episodes untainted. I then gave up during the Monica and Fred episodes and am currently watching some Nola McKenzie episodes!

Episode 6 last night.

Nice catching the early episodes again. Mum back inside. Lynn explaining more of her ordeal, with flashbacks, Marilyn released and Eddie asking to marry her. Not an action packed episode but sooth running and enjoyable.

I'm just starting the Zara Moonbeam/Joan Ferguson/Nola McKenzie trying to drive Bea to suicide. Great storyline and the beginning of the end for the great Nola McKenzie. Things won't quite be the same when she's gone - but it leads the way for Sonia Stevens, so all good. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For the people who dislike Myra. Do you feel the series improved after she was shot? Because for me, as soon as that gun shot fired it left a massive hole in the show too for a while.

Episode 10 last night.

What I find interesting is how, despite being a legendary figure, 'Franky', over the last 4 or so episodes (since she had parole in her sights) has faded a lot into the background, with nothing much more than the odd snigger and laugh and wind up comment. This, and given she was only in it for 16 episodes, I think she established herself as an iconic character mainly due to the first few episodes when she was melting down left, right and centre.

Karen too, over the last number of episodes has also become a lot less involved, save for the odd 'us against them' join in to stir up the officers.

-----------------------------------------

Episode 12 on Thursday. Freaky, Lizzie and Dorr went over the fence. Liking Lynn much more this run (yes, really). I quite like the balance in these earlier episodes, with no character dominating.

-----------------------------------------

Episode 16 last night. The first real exit at the gates, complete with the theme tune in the background, as Mum and Marilyn left. Liking these earlier episodes l lot this run, but as many said, the show then went very, very patchy from this point on, until the end of the '79 season. I can't remember them at this point, as it's been 6 or so years since I saw them for the first time. So we'll see.

-----------------------------------------

Caught episode 19 last night, Enjoying these earlier ones. Franky and Dorr still on the run. They seemed to run out of ideas for it, and maybe it has been stretched out over too many episodes. Great ending when Catherine ran her husband down (only joking Robert (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grindance.gif) ), sorry, the nut job down. When I visited that area and the Milk Bar on the corner of the street, it was pity that it had only very recently changed into a more plush, modern outlet. It would have been great to have taken a photo in the original Milk Bar.

Watched episode 22 last night. Funny scene when Lizzy meets her brother.
Dorr playing the toughy is more cringe worthy by the episode, and Lynn as a character now seems a bit all over the place (in terms of writing)
I'd say this is the first episode where you can tell it's into the period after the show was originally expected to end, and it seems to be struggling with what direction to develop certain characters.
